In therapy my goal is to help you become your own therapist. You’ll learn specific strategies, skills and tools, catered to your individual needs and concerns, that you can use to make changes, relieve stress, achieve your goals and live your life to the fullest.
My practice is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is both evidence based and proven to be effective in over 400 clinical trials, treating many of the most common mental health problems. While I began my career as more of a “talk” therapist, I became passionate about CBT when I saw my clients get better faster and make long lasting change. Depending on your needs, I may also integrate trauma-focused techniques, mindfulness and principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
I have received extensive post-graduate training and supervision in CBT at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia and am the only therapist in the Tahoe Basin and in the state of Nevada certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy for CBT. I’m also the only therapist in Nevada and the greater Reno-Tahoe area certified in Prolonged Exposure (PE) and one of only a handful of clinicians in the Tahoe area practicing and working on advanced certification in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). In addition, I have completed advanced training in Mindfulness and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech.
I obtained my masters in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy and am licensed in both California and Nevada. I am an active member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), and the Nevada Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love (on most days) running, making good food and getting outside.
CBT is a form of therapy that is active, collaborative, goal-oriented and is based on the cognitive model. That means we will work together to understand the role that our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors play in our current struggles. CBT is also different than other forms of psychotherapy, in that it is brief and time limited. Often treatment ranges between 8-22 sessions, however length of treatment can vary depending on your concerns. CBT is not talk therapy, you can just talk with anyone. As a CBT therapist, in addition to support and insight, my role is to offer you specific strategies, skills and tools that you can use to make changes, relieve suffering, and achieve your goals.
